Many Italians, especially those from the north, moved west. In 1890, more Italians settled on the coast of California than any other geographic region. The reasons they chose California and why they exploited it varied. Ligurians were attracted to the idea of exploiting the French wine industry and overspill in the Eighteen Eighties. California’s small migrant population was 80th north, which made it very appealing to these people. Some of the first wave’s children arrived in the 1930s and were more successful than their parents, especially in the fields of law, politics, agriculture and business. It was the lack of prejudice, or more accurately the hatred, against other groups, in California that allowed Italian families quickly to integrate into California’s economy, politics, and business. Italian Americans generally had a difficult time during the interwar decades between 1919-1941. Italian-Americans were viewed with suspicion by the Italian Mafia, who influenced their political views. The fledgling film industry also inflated the bad reputation of mobsters such as mobster. Italian immigrants found the internment non-citizens in the early days of World War II to be the most upsetting. It was not as harsh or as long-lasting as the Japanese American internment but the Italian American community in Calif., who had been established economically and politically within the State, was shocked. Italian-Americans started to leave the small European villages of Fisherman’s Wharf and North Beach. The exodus grew even more after the Korean War. This was mainly due to the suburbanization of the Point of Entry Bay area, where new families were looking for their own independent housing. North Beach is one of the few areas left that has a strong ethnic heritage. At the same, neighborhoods started to be more diverse, as the exclusivity of the communities began to dissipate. In the Fiorentino Family’s first 2 years, they did little but a small amount of drug traffic. The Abandonato family, however, began to have problems and called on their friend Lawrence’s family. Abandonato Don Vito Abandonato had been acquitted of conspiracy charges and the Abandonato Crime Family was having some legal issues. Abandonato Don Vito Abandonato was in remission on conspiracy charges, so the Abandonato family asked the Fiorentinos for help. The Fiorentino family was given a difficult and heavy task. They were given the assignment to eliminate John Berti, a renowned informant. Berti, who was married to his wife at the time, had agreed to give police information on Ryder Bennet’s murder in order to prevent her from being sent to prison on a theft charge. Winston Rossi was armed with an unloaded machine gun when he entered Berti’s home in July 1983. Berti was shot at point blank.

The Fiorentinos had been suspected of murdering 15 individuals between 1985 and 1991, who were all seriously troubled by the Abandonatos. The Fiorentinos were now a large family and had begun to distance themselves from Abandonatos. Each Mafia maintained a close relationship. Phillip Ace the member of the metropolitan police was working with Fiorentinos. But he was denied his payment each month by Fiorentinos. This made him angry. Ace had also been close with Abandonatos. Ace began to tell Abandonatos that Marty Fiorentino’s “underboss” to Lawrence Fiorentino is a snitch. Lawrence Fiorentino admitted to being a rat when confronted about Marty by the Abandonatos. I’d love you to let Phillip know that he can kiss his ars. “The Abandonatos were not convinced by Lawrence. Every week, Marty Fiorentino would be shot eight-times as he exited the car. Lawrence, furious at this point, sent four men with automatic rifles to Abandonatos. At six o’clock at night, gunshots could be heard in Vegas. Four Abandonatos shot and died on one street. The police were putting pressure on both families to make a decision about a ceasefire.

The police conducted an operation called Clambusters in 1997. Once officer Phillip Ace was arrested on corruption charges, they had many of its own officers infiltrate Fiorentino Crime Family. Ace was required to give up all he knew in order to plead guilty. The police were unable to get solid evidence about the Fiorentino Crime Family after a two year investigation until one of its own turned them in. Harrison Angelo, a member of the Fiorentino Family who was created by the Fiorentinos, had his murder charges dropped. Angelo received a choice between life imprisonment or 30 years in prison if he refused to divulge any information regarding the Fiorentinos. The Abandonato Criminal Family was brought down in 2000 due to an investigation. On the 30th of March 2001, the police began arresting Fiorentino members. At the end the day, 8 members had been released. In 2003, the operation was not deemed successful because it only resulted in Lawrence Fiorentino being convicted. The Quiet Years: 2003-2010 After Lawrence Fiorentino’s indictment, and the failure to convict six members of Fiorentino Crime Family.

The Family was closed to newcomers and outsiders. The family retired many high ranking members early to avoid further investigation. It was a win-win situation as the Family would be able to relax investigations and retire close family members. This also kept the members who had retired from prison. Thomas Pugliesi acted as acting boss for “the silent years” and unlocked the family. Tony Pirozzi joined the group in 2005. Mancini’s role would be crucial in the enlargement of Los Santos by the mob.

Thomas Pugliesi encouraged a large number of white-collar crimes to keep the police away from their measuring tool. The Fiorentinos were declared dead by the media and most police in 2005. Donald Ricci became Pugliesi’s assistant in 2006. Ricci became one of those who helped propel the family’s “The Quiet Years”, and put them on the map. Ricci started reconstructing the mobs’ legal ventures by buying a construction business and investing in an extremely small building. These ventures have been one of the best ways for the family to gain financial stability. In 2008, former boss Lawrence Fiorentino developed carcinoma. He was brought back to Vegas so he could be near his family. Fiorentino died in the middle of 2009 following a cancer battle. Fiorentino was buried in his home city after 300 people attended the ceremony. The ceremony attracted mobsters who hadn’t seen each other in many years. Even members of Abandonato, the family that was once a rival to the Abandonatos, came to show their respect. Tony Pirozzi, who was soon to become Los Santos mob captian Tony Pirozzi became a man in 2009. Donald Ricci was his favorite and the two often discussed plans to expand Mancini’s Los Santos. Thomas Pugliesi reopened the books for crews in 2010. The Crime Family’s reputation could rise, allowing it to move into a subsequent chapter. Thomas Pugliesi (the Fiorentino’s current boss, born in 2011) had allowed his road crew to begin recruiting again and now a fast surge has begun.

The Fiorentinos reinvest their money in drug trafficking, weapons trafficking and extortion. In l.a. the crew of head archangel Trevisani hounded a father who was also a businessman. Ernesto Lopez was the owner of a pawnshop in Los Angeles that frequently sold stolen goods. Lopez at one point refused to pay his monthly taxes, claiming he did not have any cash and was unable to pay them. The Fiorentinos left after telling Lopez it was okay. Tony Pirozzi, Image Photo. They avoided him for a few months and Lopez’s cautious attitude began to change. Joe Sagese was one of the men who showed up to the store just before closing. They set fire to Lopez’s Pawn Shop and burned him alive. This caused panic among anyone who thought they had not paid taxes. Thomas Pugliesi shot to death in front of the restaurant he owned. He was found dead at the scene by medics. Pugliesi, a 50-caliber precision weapon shooter, had shot him eight times.

Donald Ricci replaced Pugliesi. Ricci soon promoted long-time pal Tony Pirozzi. Tony Pirozzi, Ricci and other people affected by Los Santos began to put their idea into action to utilize Mancini along with Samuel Leon the soldier and others to form a crew. Mancini’s team would revolve around extortion, loan sharking and drug traffic. In Los Santos he would also open many bars and restaurants as a way to conceal the Family’s new criminal business. In Los Santos an additional little crew, the Cuezze Crew extorted the Mancini Crew. The Mancini’s quickly dispatched the Cuezze crew, setting an example to other Italian crews. In just one year, the Cuezze Crew lost four members. Mancini and his crew suffered no casualties. Mancini’s crew began to establish roots quickly after cash began to pour in.
